This fortress, located 4 km from the village of Talistan on the right bank of the Agchay River, is the pride of the Ismayilli region. The fortress was a once powerful defensive fort made of limestone and riverstone and is associated with the 7th-century Caucasian Albanian military leader Javanshir Mehranid. Sitting on a hilltop, it consisted of inner and outer parts and legend says that attackers used to be dropped from the fortress walls into the abyss below. It is also said to have been linked by an underground tunnel to the nearby Maiden Tower. Today only the ruins remain, surrounded by forest, but hiking here makes for an interesting excursion.
