The building where the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan is located belonged to an oil millionaire and philanthropist Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev and his family. It was built in 1895-1901 on the project of Jozef Goslawski, the author of many magnificent buildings in Baku, and is inscribed in the historic memory as the Taghiyev’s Palace. The famous millionaire and his family lived in this three-storey building along with close relatives for 18 years — until 1920. At present, Taghiyev's house museum occupies 9 rooms of the building. In these rooms you can see the furniture and different belongings of Haji Zeynalabdin and his family, as well as get acquainted with the lifestyle of the Taghiyev family.
In these halls, you can view furniture and various personal items that belonged to Haji Zeynalabdin and his family.
Across other halls of the museum, which encompass 6 departments, nearly 300,000 artifacts are housed, illustrating the history of Azerbaijan from the earliest periods to modern times. Among the most valuable exhibits are objects from the Stone Age, Antiquity, and the Middle Ages. Great interest is drawn by artifacts connected to the historical states that existed on Azerbaijani territory, exhibits from the khanate period, flags, symbolic keys to cities and fortresses, documents, garments, as well as more than 150,000 coins and banknotes from the extensive numismatic collection.
Be sure to visit the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan and set out on a fascinating journey through the many eras of our country’s rich heritage.
