Shadows of Guba's sorrowslight a path to prevention
Azerbaijan has undergone a host of severe struggles over time, which are reflected in all periods of the country’s history. Guba Genocide Memorial Complex, located in the centre of the city of Guba, was erected to highlight one of these storms that the people of Azerbaijan courageously endured – events that speak of genocide. The discovery of a mass grave during excavations in the city of Guba in 2007 is clear evidence of genocide perpetrated against Azerbaijan by Armenians in March 1918.
Guba Genocide Memorial Complex was created with the aim of bringing these truths to the attention of the international community, protecting the national identity of the Azerbaijani people and immortalising the memory of tens of thousands of Azerbaijanis who were wiped out. The complex, built in 2012-2013, is unique in Azerbaijan, standing out for its architectural originality. The exhibits displaying our history are always of interest to visitors, with information about the site presented to visitors by complex guides in four languages (Azerbaijani, English, Russian and Arabic).
