Sheikh Juneyd Mausoleum, a sublime architectural achievement, dates to the early 16th century and stands as a major historical monument in the village of Hazra in Gusar District. The story of the mausoleum is intertwined with Sheikh Juneyd, who led the Qizilbash forces into battle against Shirvanshah Khalilullah in 1460, in an attempt to invade Shirvan. The Qizilbash army suffered defeat and Sheikh Juneyd lost his life, with his remains laid to rest in the village of Hazra. After the Safavids gained full control over Shirvan, 84 years after Sheikh Juneyd’s death, a mausoleum was constructed over his grave.

The old mausoleum, with its distinctive architectural style, captures the attention of visitors. Constructed with ornate brickwork, the mausoleum’s exterior is adorned with a large dome, while its interior walls are covered with turquoise and violet tiles. While observing the western entrance, you will notice an Arabic inscription of seven lines running along its façade. Despite renovations that may have altered its external appearance, the interior of the mausoleum retains its original historical elements. Located in the village of Hazra, the mausoleum attracts great interest, particularly among local and foreign tourists during the summer season.
