Before diving further into the creative offerings of Kilimchi, it's worth exploring the origin of its name. A kilim is a traditional hand-woven rug, decorated with symbolic patterns that reflect the history, culture, and beliefs of the people who create them. These rugs are not just decorative items – they are storytellers, whose each motif carries meaning and reflects the philosophies of life, nature, and spirituality, conveyed by the "kilimchi" – a skilled master in kilim making.
Since its establishment in 2016, Kilimchi Studio’s mission has been to revive, preserve, and pass on Azerbaijan's ancient art of carpet weaving and tapestry. The studio actively hosts master classes on various traditional crafts, including those beyond carpet weaving. You can find a wide range of creative workshops in traditional crafts such as pottery, clay sculpting, kelagayi-making (Azerbaijan's beloved silk scarves), soap making, and much more.
The workshops are designed for adults and children alike, and the studio organizes off-site sessions in schools and outdoor locations, bringing creativity into new and exciting environments.
