The main exhibits displayed at the Museum of Modern Art are the best paintings and sculptures of the avant-garde art of Azerbaijan since the second half of the XX century. This exposition represents the artist's observations, searches and the freedom of the human spirit. The museum is designed as a single unit that combines architecture, design, painting and sculpture, both in terms of exhibited works and appearance. One of the main principles of the museum is freedom and the absence of strictly defined frames in the exhibitions. The architecture of the building also emphasizes these features: the lack of corners and closed forms, open passages, location of the two floors in a single open space and the connection via the forgotten stairs, etc.
Today, the museum features around 800 exhibits. Here you can see works by well-known Azerbaijani painters and sculptors such as Ashraf Murad, Eldar Mamedov, Mirnadir Zeynalov, Altay Sadikhzade, as well as representatives of fine art including Sattar Bahlulzadeh, Boyukaga Mirzazadeh, Elmira Shahtakhtinskaya, Tahir Salahov, Omar Eldarov, and Nadir Abdurrahmanov. In addition, the museum also includes an exhibition of children’s artwork, a video hall, a library, and a souvenir shop. At the Metropolis Gallery, visitors can purchase works by contemporary artists and enrich their collections with unique pieces.
