Kamil Aliyev carpetsshine with weaving mastery
The great Azerbaijani carpet artist, Kamil Aliyev, left behind a vast creative legacy of unique narrative, portrait and ornamental carpets, jewellery, countless sketches and drafts, hundreds of articles published around the globe, dozens of documentary films and books about carpets.
The gallery, once inhabited by the artist and now also acting as a house museum, consists of three large halls containing 24 ornamental carpets, 7 portrait carpets dedicated to figures of literature and art, and 23 watercolour drafts that served as the basis for the carpets. The gallery also displays Kamil Aliyev's personal belongings, archival photographs and books reflecting his life and creative journey. Among these items, a hand-carved mirror with an ivory frame and a painted vase gifted by the former President of the Republic of Türkiye, Turgut Özal, draw significant interest.
Visitors can sign up for a tour of Sunny Carpets Gallery, concluding with a serving of delicious aromatic tea and national sweets, which takes approximately 50 minutes.
