Gilabi Ceramicsmemories shaped in clay
In the heart of Lachin, Gilabi Ceramics brings traditional craftsmanship to life through clay. Opened in 2023, the creative centre combines a production space, workshop and visitor area, offering a chance to see how ceramics are made and experience the craft for yourself.
From the first touch of clay to the finished piece, each ceramic work passes through several stages. Artisans carefully shape the clay by hand before firing it in a kiln. Artists then add distinctive patterns and intricate details, apply glaze and fire each piece once more. The result is a collection of one-of-a-kind ceramics, with every piece reflecting the skill and creativity of its maker.
The collections at Gilabi Ceramics draw inspiration from Lachin and its heritage. Their designs feature images of the local landscape, ancient Caucasian Albanian temples, the Garabagh horse, 16th-century figurines, pomegranates and traditional national ornaments. Through these details, seemingly ordinary objects become little stories that invite you to look closer.
But the experience at Gilabi Ceramics goes beyond admiring finished pieces. The centre also hosts workshops for children and adults, where visitors can work with clay, shape it themselves and create their own ceramic piece. It is an opportunity not only to observe the craft, but to become part of it for a while.
And if you would like to take a memory of Lachin home with you, you can choose a ceramic piece from the centre's shop. Be sure to visit Gilabi Ceramics during your trip to Lachin and discover the city through its shapes, colours and details.
