trove of artBahruz Kangarli Museum
The musuem is dedicated to the cherished memory of Bahruz Kangarli, a prominent figure and founder of the Azerbaijani Realism painting school. National Leader Heydar Aliyev studied in this building (then the Nakhchivan Pedagogical Technical School) in 1938-1939, and participated in the opening of the museum on 18 June 2002.
After major reconstruction in 2013, the museum building was reopened, with a design that synthesises Eastern and Western architectural elements. The two-storey building consists of seven rooms on the first floor and five rooms on the second floor. Bahruz Kangarli, who also engaged in theatre set painting, graphic works and other genres, created his most valuable works in the portrait genre, which celebrated the beauties of his homeland throughout his life. The renowned artist, who lived only 30 years, created over 2,000 paintings. The museum displays over 1,300 exhibits, including 63 original works by the artist.
