Huseyn Javid House Museumand Memorial Complex
Nakhchivan is a city rich in history and culture, among whose attractions Huseyn Javid House Museum and Memorial Complex stands out. Although the mausoleum on the poet's grave and those of his family members was built relatively recently, it is in an ancient architectural style. Near the mausoleum itself is a museum created in the house where the great wordsmith lived until 1919.
There are over 9,000 exhibits related to his life and work on display here. Of particular interest are photographs, various memorabilia, personal items, first editions of works, rare copies of the works ‘Iblis’ (The Devil) and ‘Sayavush’ with the author's autograph, posters and programmes for anniversaries and stagings of his works in theatres.
As archival documents testify, Huseyn Javid passed away in 1941 in Siberia, where he was buried. It was not until 1982, on the initiative of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, that the poet’s remains were transferred to his native Nakhchivan and reburied next to his paternal home. After that, in 1984, the official opening of the Huseyn Javid House Museum took place and then, in 1996, of the mausoleum.
While visiting this amazing place, you can truly feel the workings of time and immerse yourself in an atmosphere where the spirit of Huseyn Javid lives on.
