visitNoah’s Tomb
Nakhchivan is rich in legends, with those concerning Prophet Noah’s settlement, life and death among the most mysterious. Some historians and geographers even mention this as a fact in their works.
Located in Nakhchivan Castle History and Architecture Museum Complex, the above-ground tomb of Prophet Noah is a must-see in the city of Nakhchivan. The plaque here notes that the mausoleum has been restored multiple times. Scientific research conducted in 2006 determined the location of Prophet Noah's above-ground tomb, and archaeological excavations uncovered the foundations of the tomb and decorative elements, before restoration work was initiated.
The tomb consists of three parts - the crypt, the above-ground mausoleum and the conical cover. During the discovery of the tomb’s foundations, it was determined to have eight sides and an entrance from the west. The restoration aimed to recreate the tomb’s original appearance. The mausoleum is located between Nakhchivan Castle History and Architecture Museum Complex and Heydar Mosque.
