Az Abrau Museumhistory blended with wine
Situated amidst the foothills of the Greater Caucasus and the renowned Alazan Valley, visitors to the winery of Az Abrau are first greeted by the region’s staggering beauty. The museum itself provides a comprehensive journey into winemaking through over 500 exhibits that showcase the detailed care of vineyards, the precise process of grape pressing and the nuanced art of wine ageing, featuring wine bottles, vintage labels, rare photographs and paintings. Among these are replicas of ancient wine vessels and artefacts from archaeological digs, illustrating the area’s viticultural heritage. A modern multimedia exhibition presents a unique collection of Azerbaijani wine labels from the 19th and early 20th centuries, alongside works of great Azerbaijani poets inspired by the allure of wine.
Museum tours – either with or without wine tasting - are particularly popular, offering insights into both the museum’s collection and Az Abrau’s production processes. Tours with tastings offer samples of local wines, such as the white sparkling Brut and semi-sweet 'Abrau 1870', complemented by olives, breadsticks and a cheese plate to enrich the experience.
