Sugovushan Temple is a fitting introduction to the past of the village. This protected cultural monument has an inscription above the southern entrance indicating that it was built between 1892 and 1898. Constructed in the form of a three-nave basilica using local materials, the temple reflects the architectural style of other Christian centres in the Karabakh region.
To the east of Sugovushan, River Gargarchay is spanned by Gari Bridge, another fascinating architectural feat from the mists of the past. Built on the historical road connecting the Talish region to the mountain villages of Karabakh, this single-arch bridge, made from river stones and polished rocks, dates to the Middle Ages.
Located 3.5 kilometres from Sugovushan at the foot of Mount Murovdag, Saint Eliseus Monastery played a major role in the political and cultural life of Caucasian Albania and later Karabakh principalities. Surrounded by walls on three sides and a steep cliff on the fourth, the impressive complex includes a cathedral, seven small chapels, an ancient cemetery, and other ruins. The Tomb of Momin Vachagan III, a ruler of Caucasian Albania, gives the site added grandeur.
