Women’s right to vote – for the first time on the East

Did you know that the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR), established on 28th of May 1918, was the first country on the whole East, to provide women with a right to vote?  The law passed by the country’s parliament on 21st of July 1919, was granting the voting rights to all the citizens of the republic, who has reached the age of 20. This fact is remarkable, especially considering that at that time, this problem has not yet been solved in many European countries. For instance, in the Great Britain the women were granted the right to vote only in the year 1928, and the similar law in Spain and Portugal were passed no earlier than the year 1931.
