Traditional Cuisine

Local cuisine is based on agricultural products and wild herbs found in the region. Below are two traditional dishes associated with the area:

Chashyr Govurmasi (Wild Herb Fry-Up)

Made from the chashyr plant, which is boiled and then sautéed with onions and butter. Eggs are added in the final step. It is commonly served with plain or garlic yogurt.

Chapish Bughlama (Braised Lamb)

Lamb (from a young sheep) is slowly cooked with traditional dairy ingredients like clotted cream (chiya), nehre butter, onions, and spices. Garlic yogurt is often served on the side.

Nature and Climate

The region features mountains, forests, and rivers. One of its key natural landmarks is the Basitchay State Nature Reserve, famous for its centuries-old Oriental Plane trees.
