Mirza Fatali Akhundov — “Serguzeshti Veziri Xani Lenkeran” (“The Adventures of the Vizier of the Khan of Lankaran”)

Written in 1850, “Serguzeshti Veziri Xani Lenkeran” is Akhundov’s third comedy and the first play ever staged on the Azerbaijani theatre stage.
The plot is set in 1800–1801, with events unfolding in the house of the vizier Mirza Habib and in the khan’s palace in Lankaran.
Against a backdrop of court and family intrigues, the central thread is the pure love between Nisa khanum, the vizier’s sister-in-law, and Teymur agha, the khan’s nephew.
As in the original text, the stage version presents the action in a comic tone; scenes follow one another swiftly, linked by lively musical interludes.

The play was produced at the Shusha State Musical Drama Theatre in 2012. Its premiere took place at the closing of the “Serguzeshti – Mirza Fatali Akhundov” theatre festival.
It was also successfully performed at the 11th “Nauruz” International Theatre Festival of Turkic-speaking peoples in Kazan (2013) and at the 1st Sheki International Theatre Festival (2014).
