Take a day trip from Baku to the ancient city of Shamakhi and the alpine village Lahic. In the morning, you will departure from your hotel in Baku to Lahic. On your way to the hill town, you will visit the Diri Baba Mausoleum, a mausoleum for Sheikh Diri Baba, located in Maraza village.
Drive the Girdimanchay River’s canyon to visit Lahic, the 5th century place rich in its historic and architectural values. Lahic is mostly famous for stunning ancient mosques and bath-houses. Learn more about medieval water supply and sewage systems. Purchase artifacts such as jewelry, copperware, carpets, pottery, daggers and iron tools in a number of traditional workshops.
Continue to Shamakhi the former capital of the Shirvan Empire. Explore the city's rich heritage and pay a visit to the historical Juma Mosque. You will also visit the Yeddi Gumbez Mausoleum, and the Shirvan Shah's family grave yard. In the afternoon, you will drive back to Baku.

Stop At: Diri Baba Mausoleum, Qobustan Azerbaijan
It is a mausoleum of Sheikh Diri Baba, located in Qobustan (town).
There is a unique monument – a two-storeyed mausoleum-mosque of the 15th century called “Diri-Baba”, located opposite an ancient cemetery – on the way from Baku to Shamakhi. For a long time, local residents believed in a legend that a sacred person called Diri Baba was buried here and remained imperishable. However, many legends and mystic events are related to this monument. That is why the mausoleum attracts many pilgrims and curious people since the 17th century. Peculiarity of the construction is that it was embed in the cliff by the architect. Allegedly it is “hanging” alienated from the ground. The mausoleum delights with austerity of its architecture, purity of lines, bright and smooth surface of its walls against the background of the rough and dark cliff, and it is also distinguished by its grandeur.

Stop At: Juma Mosque, Nariman Narimanov St., Shamakhi Azerbaijan
Construction date of the Juma mosque (Friday Mosque)- 743-744 relies on research of a geological commission. This date was defined with Arabic ligature on the facade of the Friday Mosque, stating the year 126 according to Islamic calendar as the establishment year. Just in this period the construction of new religious buildings – mosques – was begun in the territory of Azerbaijan. Historical appearance of ancient Islamic architectural monuments was related to Arabs’ governance and spreading of Islam in the territory of Azerbaijan. Friday Mosque of Shamakhi is considered the first mosque in the Caucasus after cathedral Friday Mosque of Derbent, which was constructed in 734.
The construction date of the mosque is dated from the governance period of Caliphate’s vicar in the Caucasus and Dagestan, Arabic commander Maslam ibn Abd-al Melik, brother of Umayyad caliph Valil I (705-715), by whom Shamakhi was chosen as the residence. In these years Arab governors, strengthening towers of this ancient city with the rich cultural heritage, began the construction of new structures in its territory. Arabs attached the great importance to Shamakhi, which is visible from the great architectural appearance of Friday Mosque.

Stop At: Yeddi Gumbaz Mausoleum, DNdN Qorqud St., Shamakhi 5600 Azerbaijan
Yeddi Gumbaz mausoleum – is a cemetery located 1,5 km south to Şamaxı where three mausoleums from “Yeddi Gumbaz” group are still saved. Other mausoleums of the group are partly destroyed and are without cupola or walls. The mausoleum belongs to the beginning of the 18th century. This architectural monument was built for a family of Mustafa khan – the last khan of Shamakhi. The name of the architect – ustad Taghi – is also known due to a ligature on the mausoleum. The monument belongs to Shirvan-Absheron architectural school.
