Duzdag Salt Caves

Twelve kilometres from Nakhchivan City is the Duzdag Mountain (Salt Mountain), one of the main symbols of Nakhchivan. It is one of the oldest salt deposits in the world and according to French and Azerbaijani scientists, the mine began to be exploited as early as 4,500 years ago. The salt deposits here are so abundant that production is still active, and one of the salt mines has been specially equipped for treating patients suffering from diverse ailments. Since 1979, the Duzdag physiotherapy centre has been operating here. The sanitorium was recently fully renovated and a five-star hotel built with 150 rooms.
