One of the most famous historical sights of Sheki is fortress Galarsan - Gorarsan ("Come and see"). It is located approximately 4 km north of the city. It is believed that the foundation of the construction of the fortress was laid in the XV century by Sheki ruler Alijan. In 1743, taking advantage of people’s discontentment by Iranian oppression, the governor Haji Chalabi, who declared himself to be a Sheki Khan, found shelter in the fortress and rejected demands of Nadir Shah of deposition. Enraged Shah, demanded to know the reason why Chalabi does not give up. In response he told the Shah - "Come and see." And it became the name of the fortress.
