  • N.Tusi Shamakhi Observatory

Low dust content of the atmosphere and the prevailing number of clear days in the year were the main reasons to open Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory in 1960, which is 22 kilometers to the northeast of Shamakhi at an altitude of 1,400 m. It is equipped with modern facilities, six telescopes (two to observe the sun and four to observe the stars and other celestial bodies), among which there is one of the largest telescopes on the territory of the formerSoviet Union, with the mirror diameter of 2 meters.
